What is Body Psychotherapy?

Body Psychotherapy is all about helping you to be the person you truly are. It is about being able to experience the full joy and health which life can offer in spite of the trials and tribulations which it also brings.

In body psychotherapy we believe that our emotional, physical and spiritual health all go hand-in-hand. So we work with you on all these levels to achieve maximum vitality. Depending on your needs and preferences we may work with words, touch, massage, breath, relaxation, movement, or talking.

Body Psychotherapy helps people to strengthen from within and to find solutions themselves to the problems which the world presents. It helps you to understand yourself as well as your relationships and those around you, supporting you positively to reach your potential as a vibrant human being.

Who benefits from Body Psychotherapy?

The short answer to this question is “Anyone who wants something different”. Whether you want more enjoyable, trusting relationships, more self-confidence, better health, a different life-style, a new career, or to find new meaning in your life the process which body psychotherapy offers can help. Those seeking emotional support following traumatic experience, bereavement, illness or divorce can also benefit greatly from body psychotherapy.

What happens in a consultation?

Your first meeting with the therapist involves a general discussion about your situation and what you are looking for from the process. At the end of the session she will be able to advise you whether or not body psychotherapy is suitable for you, and to recommend an initial series of meetings. Of course this is also your opportunity to make sure that you feel comfortable with the therapist and are happy to work with her.

Normally a minimum of six one-hour weekly sessions is recommended at the start of the process. The nature of each session is tailored to your needs and there is no standard format, other than the duration which is always one hour. At the end of the six sessions you and the therapist will review progress and further recommendations will be made. Depending on the issues with which you are working you may continue to see the therapist weekly for anything from a few months to a few years. Regular reviews always take place to make sure that you are on track and receiving what support you need.
