About infant Massage Courses Infant massage has been practised for many generations in many cultures around the world. In recent years, parents in Western societies have become more interested in learning how to massage their babies. Learning infant massage provides parents with a valuable skill which enables them to understand their babies better, to help their babies relax and to help them develop a close relationship with their babies. Parents attending infant massage classes with our qualified instructor, Liz Kirkby, learn the strokes bit by bit, building up each week, as well as learning more about the benefits of massage and having an opportunity to discuss topics of interest to parents, such as crying, sleeping, colic and so on. The classes are relaxed, taking babies from 4 to 6 weeks up to crawling age and class sizes are small, providing the opportunity to make new friends and have more personal tuition than is possible in a larger class. Benefits of infant massage include: - helps your baby feel loved and respected (massage is baby-led and only given with your baby's permission)
- promotes secure attachment (a secure attachment with parents provides the blue-print for all your child's future relationships)
- provides quality time with a parent and undivided attention
- helps to improve muscular development and tone
- teaches you baby how to communicate in verbal and non-verbal ways
- can relieve colic, growing pains and stimulate the digestive system
- helps to reduce stress levels and enhance relaxation
- gives you confidence in your ability to care for and nurture your baby
- helps you to understand your baby better and respond to his/her cues
- provides an opportunity to meet other parents
- provides an opportunity for you to spend one-to-one time with your baby - it is a great way for Dads to get cuddle-time with their baby too!
