Reiki The practice of Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a method of natural healing. It is believed to come from ancient texts rediscovered and developed by Mikao Usui in Japan early last century. The Japanese word Reiki means ‘Universal Energy’. Eastern medicine has always recognised and worked with this energy, which flows through all living things and is vital to the well being of life. The energy is known as ‘ki’ in Japan, ‘chi’ in China, and prana in India. Acupuncture, tai chi and yoga are based on the free-flow of this energy in a person. As a therapy, Reiki is an effective and simple way of tapping into this energy and transferring it for the benefit of the receiver, to stimulate the body’s own natural healing potential. The method of receiving a Reiki treatment from a practitioner is a very simple process. The recipient simply lies on a couch and relaxes. If they are unable to lie down the treatment can be given in a sitting position, the main thing is for the recipient to be as comfortable as possible. There is no need to remove any clothing as Reiki will pass through anything, even plaster casts. The practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively in a sequence of positions that cover the whole body. The whole person is treated rather than specific symptoms. A full treatment usually takes 1 to 1½ hours with each position held for several minutes. Reiki can be used to heal at any level: physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. Acute injuries may be helped to heal very quickly but more chronic illness could take longer. If you require any information please call us on 01480 492088 |
